Not sure you can do this? I've got a story for you...
I met D when she was in her early 60s at the life coaching center where I worked in Northern Thailand. She was unsure how to proceed in the next steps of her life--which opened before her like a large, blank canvas.
She also had a creative aspiration - she wanted to design handicrafts and help create an income stream for local Thai women, since her son had married a Thai woman.
I asked why she stayed in her current situation, that clearly made her so unhappy. She was bordering on depression and facing bleak future prospects.
"I could never strike out on my own," she told me.
D had devoted her life to raising a family and --now that her kids were grown and gone--she was getting increasingly frustrated with an unhappy husband who did not appreciate her.
I looked at her and I said: "Why are you staying in an abusive situation that makes you unhappy?"
We started working together. We met twice weekly for individual coaching sessions, and she learned simple tools she could use to identify what changes she might make to get her life back on track.
She went home from Thailand and presented her husband with divorce papers. After a month she'd moved out and established new friendships with women from her past. After six months, she bought herself a small house in Wales. Today, she spends part of her year with her son and grandchild in Thailand, and the other half of the year she creates community in her new home while supporting the livelihood of indigenous Thai women.
If D could do this, I know you can, too. I've seen what gets results—and I'd love to share it with you.
No matter where you find yourself along your journey, you always have options. There is no reason to resign yourself to a life that makes you miserable, or even just blah.
